DE-ICING Liquid is mixed with Propylene Glycol, orange paint is mixed for easy identification.

It has a very low viscosity and can flow easily from the ground where it is located. By mixing with water, the freezing point is lowered. Average freezing point of 50/50 liquid-water mixture is -35 C.

The frozen materials on the aircraft are cleaned with high pressure heated deice liquid vapor. It should be heated between 65 ⁰C and 82 ⁰ C during use, and it is cleaned with the help of heat and mechanical processes.

It should be considered that chemical exposure may occur at the time of de-icing application.

Aircondition packs should be turned OFF to avoid liquid vapor.

Glycol vapor can cause itching of the ears, nose and throat, headache, nausea, vomiting and dizziness.

Following the completion of the deice and / or anti-ice application, the ground crew should inform the cockpit about the type of liquid, mixing ratio and the end time of the process.

This information should be used in holdover time charts.

It should be known that Holdover times are not exact values.

Protection times decrease depending on different weather conditions, in case of strong wind, jet blast and fuel temperature below OAT.

These times are used as a guide in pre-departure control.
